I Enormously And Categorically Venerate The English Language!

January 14, 2008

By Dolores Meriwether

Ever since I was a diminutive babe-in-arms, all I can recollect is being unquestionably infatuated with the English language! Call me besotted, call me obsessed, call me smitten! One thing is clear...I enormously and categorically venerate the English language!

I find it irresistible to use punctuation and intricate vocabulary words to make cunning and beautiful arguments, as well as poetic and romantic prose! My love affair with the English language started under the influence of my grandfather, a wise, kindly octogenarian with a penchant for Shakespeare...he would read to me during the twilight hours on many lazy, languid Southern evenings during my youth. Hence began my predilection of the English language!

No, no man of flesh and blood can ever compare to a sonnet, an essay...a screenplay to a Woody Allen film! No. I prefer the strong arms of beautiful prose and flowing expressions than some cheap thrill. Certainly, I've had a few gallant suitors, but it has always concluded with an improper use of "your" and "you're", or "there, their and they're." No...that sort of man is not for me. Should a man such as Tennyson appear in my life...I should consider myself very providential indeed. But, until then, I will be nestled in the sweet, sensual, and expressive limbs of the immortal idioms I peruse every night, and conjointly those which spring forth from my pen.
